About

School mission

The mission of J. Douglas Hodgson Elementary School (JDHES) is to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where students can acquire the knowledge, skills, and values needed to become responsible members of a changing society.

School history

JDHES opened its doors to students for the first time in September, 1972. At that time, students in Grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 from Gooderham, Wilberforce, and Haliburton attended this school. For the next few years it was called the Haliburton Highlands Senior Elementary School. In 1984, the name was changed to JDHES in honour of the first Director of Education for Haliburton County.

From 1988-1999, our school included Grade 3 students. Today, Kindergarten to Grade 3 students attend Stuart Baker Elementary School, which is situated to the west of our school.
